Gotta remember to Blog!

November 23, 2009

Time to get back on the blogging bandwagon and update my weeks training the previous week

Wednesday just did an easy 12km at 5 min km pace – Felt great nice and easy!

Thursday did an hour and a half of cycling on the spin bikes – enjoyed it muchly! nice and comfy average HR 143bpm

Friday – not so comfy did a 10km tempo run 42:30 – hurt but necessary

Saturday – off just went for a 8km stroll with the Wifey

Sunday – THE LONG RUN, was too hot outside so basically did two hours on the treddy first hour and a half at 5min km pace and the last 30 mins at about 4:35 min km pace. will continue to follow the last 30min “fast finish” in my long runs, as I think it will condition my legs to “bring it home”

Today/Monday – back to back Rpm’s as my rest day nice and comfy.

Will post my report on tomorrows session TOMORROW Scouts honour!!

Tuesday Arvo Duathlon Session

November 17, 2009

After an easy day yesterday, just teaching my RPM class. I ramped it up a little and did a steady 10km in about 44min and then backed it up by cranking out an hour RPM enduro class straight after.

Felt a little tired by the end and definitely needed some carbs straight after.

It’s Saras Birthday Tomorrow and contemplated skipping my run but have to keep the eyes on the prize. That being said it will only be a comfortable 13km’s at an easy pace, so shouldn’t be too bad as long as I get a good nights sleep tonight!

The Sunday Long Run

November 15, 2009

Trudged out 24km’s this morning & felt pretty comfortable until the final 4km’s in which my legs felt like lead. Must remind myself to not go too hard on my run tonight as I overdid it last week.

Saturday Morning RPM

Went to be way too late last night but somehow dragged my sorry butt out of slumber to go do RPM.

Felt pretty good actually and will try and get some good rest today for my long run tomorrow.

An easy 12.5km

November 13, 2009

Had a very nice run tonight, after giving myself a day off to freshen the legs up, my body responded nicely and really felt comfy. It helped a touch when one of my RPM participants jumped on the treddy next to me and we chatted for half an hour or so. Normally tomorrow is a rest day but might go and pump out an RPM in the morning.

Very Painful 13km

November 11, 2009

Yesterday I had my Hump Day Wednesday 13km run over rolling hills which i normally look forward to, but not yesterday…..not by a long shot.

The first 7km I felt pretty okay, my heart rate was about 5bpm higher than expected, but It was still comfortable enough, but then at the 8km struck, so did the stomach cramps, with ferocity!

Every stride felt like I was going backwards and my heart rate was starting to raise to slightly alarming preportions. I almost stopped at one stage, however somehow I forced myself through it, mainly because I was running to my precious toilet bowl as the cramps get worse and worse.

Needless to say when I arrived home I “relieved” my stomach cramps, however it appears as if i have a stomach bug of some description as I’m still not quite right today, so I might give todays session a miss and get back on the horse tomorrow.

Is it just me ??

November 11, 2009

Is it just me or has our society  so embraced a sedentary lifestyle, that when you mention to your friends or family members you’re not interested in getting drunk with them on a Friday/ Saturday Night as you’ve got a training session on the next day, their immediate reaction is “Why would you want to do that for?” or “You’re skinny enough as it is ?”

True Story  – Whilst training for the City to Surf this year, my wife Sara and I went on a total alcohol ban and set ourself some very challenging 4 month goals to achieve. Mine was to run the City to Surf in under an hour and hers was to be the strongest she has ever been.

We both tackled these challenges with vigour. We both changed our diets,  Sara got herself a personal trainer and I dusted off the heart rate monitor, got myself a running program written and began tracking each of my runs to ensure, I was doing everything RIGHT!!

During this time I was invited to a “Boys’ weekend away in Newcastle.  I was a little circumspect at the time as I know what goes on during these trips and really didn’t want to partake in the massive binge drinking sessions and had a couple of runs scheduled for those days, however I was given “assurance” by my mates that I could still do my runs and stay grog free whilst I was away without being hassled “too much”

Our first evening away we went to a local pub to watch the football and for some of the guys to share a few bevvies, whilst I stuck to the Soda Water, much to the chagrin of my mates, who spent the first 2 hours cojolling me into drinking, in which I politely declined every time.

Their strategy clearly wasn’t working as they had never met such a determined foe,  not to be deterred they took it to the next level and basically  resorted to spiking my Soda Water. Needless to say I was most livid when I found out later in the night and the next morning without notifying any of my “mates” I walked some 11km to the local train station and went home.

So I guess the question I must pose Have we come so far down the road of inactivity that the people who embrace an active lifestyle are almost forced into hiding as the ever growing  overweight majority armed with their remote controls and potato crisps laze high five each other with excuses whilst digging themself any early grave?

Food for Thought

My Journey to the Canberra Marathon April 2010 Begins

November 10, 2009

So here I am, the open road ahead, the beginning of the Journey – Destination Canberra Marathon April 10 2010.

Although I’ve always been a keen runner,  I’ve never set myself the goal of the “Ultimate” Test to grind down the 42 and abit kilometers that so many have trudged down the since it’s inception all the way back in Ancient Greece.

So from now until said date (maybe a little longer if I can keep this thing going),  I will leave a little Journal of my thoughts, reflections and just general updates on how I’m travelling in preparation for the “Big Day”

For those of you watching at home, I’m following this tortuos training program.

I will attempt ( attempt being the key word) to update this blog DAILY as both a way to keep myself accountable and hopefully be able to reflectupon this journey with pride.

See you on the Open Road
